Summary

Mallinckrodt A.B.I. Elementary is a public magnet elementary school in Saint Louis, Missouri, serving 283 students in grades PK-5. Despite being part of the low-performing St. Louis City school district, this exceptional school consistently ranks as the #1 elementary school in the state of Missouri, with a remarkable 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Mallinckrodt A.B.I. Elementary's students significantly outperform the state and district averages on standardized tests across all grade levels and subjects, a remarkable achievement considering the school's high-needs student population. The school spends between $12,327 and $15,190 per student, higher than nearby schools in the district, and has relatively low chronic absenteeism rates compared to the district average. This suggests that the school's unique approach and resources may be key factors in its exceptional academic performance.

While the school serves a high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, it is providing equitable educational opportunities and supporting the academic growth of traditionally underserved student populations. This is evidenced by the school's strong outcomes for African American and other high-needs student subgroups, which outpace the performance of nearby schools like Oak Hill Elementary and Momentum Academy Tower Grve South. Mallinckrodt A.B.I. Elementary's consistent top ranking and exceptional academic performance make it a model for other schools serving similar student demographics.

Open Quote Our experience has been exceptional. The teachers/staff are all amazing and caring. There is a wonderful community feel with a high level of parent involvement. The academics are top-notch. I feel so lucky that we send our child here. You couldn't pay me to leave the city and switch schools--it's just that amazing. Close Quote

Open Quote In the fall of 2010, Mallinckrodt began transitioning to a gifted magnet school. The principal, teachers and families would like Mallinckrodt to develop into a school that can rival the city's own Kennard. The teachers are caring, professional and are always willing to go the extra mile. The leadership seems to have a vision for the school and are working with parents and teachers to reach that goal. My child has always been eager to go to school and enjoys the extra curricular instructions such as Art, Music, PE, Spanish, and even Chinese. This upcoming year, students will be working in the outdoors with the school's new garden funded by a "Gateway Greening" grant. Mallinckrodt is a great school in the city and I would highly reccommend it to any family that loves their city and also values education. Close Quote
