Summary

Hawthorne Elementary is a public elementary school located in Mexico, Missouri, serving 429 students in grades 1-5. The school is part of the Mexico 59 school district, which is ranked 311 out of 367 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Hawthorne Elementary faces significant challenges, including consistently high chronic absenteeism rates, significantly lower test scores compared to state and district averages, and an extremely high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Despite relatively high spending per student, the school's academic performance remains poor, with a declining statewide ranking over the years. In contrast, some nearby schools like Hallsville Primary and Two Mile Prairie Elementary in other districts are performing significantly better, suggesting that factors beyond just socioeconomic status may be contributing to the challenges at Hawthorne Elementary.

The school's declining performance and the stark contrast with some higher-performing nearby schools indicate the need for a comprehensive and data-driven approach to address the root causes of Hawthorne Elementary's challenges and implement effective interventions to improve student outcomes. This may involve a closer examination of the school's resource allocation, teaching practices, and targeted support for specific student subgroups to ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed.

Open Quote Hawthorne elementary in Mexico MO has been excellent for all three of my children but has been wonderful for my son with Autism. He attended a neighboring school his entire life before we relocated and there is no comparison. Mr Señor is highly aware of what his disability involves and has been of great help to my son and myself. Highly recommended Close Quote
