Wabasso Secondary is a 7–12 high school of 237 students in the Wabasso Public School District, a small rural district in southwestern Minnesota that sits within 12–18 miles of five comparable secondary schools. It ranks 29th of 473 Minnesota high schools for 2025-26 — the 94th percentile, 5 stars — a jump from the 32nd percentile in 2020-21.

Math is the standout strength. At 68.6% proficient, Wabasso Secondary is 23.7 points above the state (44.9) and 22.5 points ahead of the next-best nearby school, Springfield Secondary. That lead holds at every tested grade: 11th grade math 67.9 against a state 35.3, 8th grade 72.5 against 42.3, and 7th grade 64.7 against 40.3. Reading is the clear weak spot and the one place a peer clearly beats Wabasso. At 39.6% proficient, the school trails the state (48.6) and sits 17.1 points behind Springfield Secondary. The gap is concentrated in the younger grades: 7th grade reading is 22.9% against a state 43.5%, even as those same 7th graders beat the state in math by 24 points, and reading rises to 55.6% by 10th grade. Science is mid-pack at 30.3%, behind Redwood Valley Senior High (46.3) and Springfield Secondary (38.1). Female and male students now perform at nearly identical levels, but the most recent low-income subgroup result (2023-24) showed only the 59th percentile and has not been updated for two years, so it is unclear whether the recent gains have reached lower-income students. With roughly 35–45 students per grade, year-to-year swings should be expected.
