Academically, it has been on a long, steady climb: it ranked 306th of 546 Minnesota middle schools in 2025–2026, the 44th percentile with 2 stars, up from the 19th percentile and 1 star in 2015–2016. That is the school's strongest showing in the past decade, and it now outperforms its own district overall — the district ranks 346th of 458 Minnesota districts (24th percentile, 1 star) — though Murray still sits just below the 50th-percentile state midpoint.

Reading is Murray's clearest academic strength.
