Menahga High School serves roughly 450 students in grades 7 through 12 in the small north-central Minnesota community of Menahga, and it is the only secondary school in the Menahga Public School District. Statewide, it ranks 257th of 473 Minnesota high schools (46th percentile, 2 stars) in 2025-26 — its strongest showing since 2015-16 and a real recovery from its 2021-22 low of 21st percentile and 1 star.

Completion is the school's standout strength. Its 92.3% graduation rate beats the state's 84.9%, and its 1.5% dropout rate is the lowest in this comparison group and about a third of the state's 4.2%. Graduation has stayed at or above 88% and above the state for five straight years. Against Park Rapids Area High School — a similar-size school about 12 miles away — Menahga graduates 92.3% versus 81.3% and has a dropout rate of 1.5% versus 8.2%, even with a higher low-income indicator and a higher 17:1 student-teacher ratio (Park Rapids is 12.6).

Test scores tell a different story. Proficiency trails the state in all three subjects: math 26.3% versus 44.9%, reading 39.2% versus 48.6%, and science 14.9% versus 25.5%. Nevis Secondary, about 19 miles away, is nearly 29 points ahead in math, and Sebeka Secondary also outperforms Menahga on proficiency while sitting closer on poverty and staffing. Grades 7, 10, and 11 land within about 4–6 points of the state, and science results swing widely from year to year, so any single science figure deserves caution.
