Madelia Secondary is a public school in the small southern Minnesota town of Madelia, serving 294 students in grades 7–12 as part of the Madelia Public School District. Its 2025–2026 state rank is 149th of 473 Minnesota high schools (68th percentile, 3 stars), a major climb from 2020–2021, when it ranked 350th of 428 (18th percentile, 1 star). The improvement has not been a straight line — the school dipped to the 50th percentile in 2024–2025 — but the most recent result is the strongest in the available history.

The biggest concern is completion. Madelia's 2024–2025 graduation rate was 77.7%, below Minnesota's 84.9%, and its dropout rate was 17.7% — more than four times the state's 4.2% and close to St. James Middle/High School's 18.5%. Nearby New Ulm High School (96.4% graduation, 1.1% dropout), Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Sec (94.4%, 1.3%) and Truman Secondary (93.7%, 0.0%) post far stronger completion figures. Math and reading trail New Ulm High School and Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Sec but exceed St. James and Truman in math.
