Summary

Cloquet Area Alternative Education Programs (CAAEP) is a small public alternative school in Cloquet, Minnesota, serving 74 students in grades 6–12 as part of the Cloquet Public School District. Its 2025–26 statewide rank is 418th of 473 (12th percentile, 1 star), and its rank history sits almost entirely in the bottom decile or low teens — 441st of 450 in 2024–25, 418th of 480 in 2023–24, and 461st of 472 in 2021–22. The district itself ranks 179th of 458 in Minnesota.

Completion is improving from crisis lows, but proficiency is not. Graduation rose from 59.0% in 2021–22 to 77.2% in 2024–25, and dropout fell from 20.4% to 4.5%. One clear strength is staffing: a 10.9 student–teacher ratio, far lower than Cloquet Senior (21.7) and most nearby conventional high schools.

CAAEP serves a relatively high-need population. Free/reduced lunch was 50% in 2024–25, down from 78.16% in 2022–23 but still above Cloquet Senior (38.63%), Proctor Senior High (33.15%), and Wrenshall Secondary (43.75%). Subgroup results are a concern: female students ranked 357th of 358 and low-SES students 330th of 333 in 2024–25.
