Its rank history shows a long decline with a brief rebound: it sat at the 40th percentile in 2015–2016, dipped to 29th in 2020–2021, recovered to 39th in 2021–2022, then slid to 25th, 22nd, and finally 16th.

The most striking difference from nearby schools is size. This school's 3,536 students outnumber all seven nearby schools combined, which enroll 2,289 students total — Hmong College Prep Academy High School (791), HGA Secondary (442), Great River School (411), New Century School Secondary (284), Gordon Parks High School (217), Career Pathways (121), and NCS Online Program (23). Class sizes look very different too: its student-teacher ratio was 41.1 in 2024–2025, up from 35.0 the year before — more than double most nearby schools and roughly 3.5 times Great River School's 11.7.

The graduation rate improved to 76.5% in 2024–2025, above the district's 67.1% but below the state's 84.9% and below most nearby charter schools. The dropout rate of 6.6% is above both the district (5.9%) and state (4.2%), and second highest nearby behind Career Pathways (6.9%). About 63.35% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch — lower than most nearby charters. One clear bright spot: English Language Learner students ranked in the 87th percentile with 4 stars in 2025–2026.

My child has gone to MTC Connections Academy for 5 years.She is able to work at her own pace, is advanced in math and enjoys the options available for clubs and electives. We like the freedom the school allows for us to do school during any time of the day. We also like being able to adjust the class schedule to fit our days. The teachers are supportive and helpful. The cirriculum is challenging and fun. The electives and clubs are amazing. Close Quote
