Summary:

Sebeka Public School District is a small, two-building district in rural Minnesota serving roughly 451 students across Sebeka Elementary (grades PK–6, 218 students) and Sebeka Secondary (grades 7–12, 233 students). There is no standalone middle school, so the middle grades sit inside the secondary building. The district ranks 199 of 458 statewide, in the 57th percentile with 3 stars.

Sebeka Elementary is the stronger performer on tests. In 2025–2026 it beat both the district and the state in all three subjects: math 49.6%, reading 52.3%, and science 29.0%. Its early grades stand out most, with 3rd grade math at 78.8% and 4th grade math at 75.9%, well above state averages. The school also has the lower student-teacher ratio of the two buildings at 9.9, even though it has the higher free/reduced lunch rate at 61.93%. Its standing has been stable, holding around the 57th percentile and 3 stars for two years.

Sebeka Secondary tells a mixed story. Its completion numbers are excellent: a 97.4% graduation rate and 2.5% dropout rate, both well ahead of the state (84.9% and 4.2%). Its 7th and 8th grade math and reading scores are also above state. However, overall proficiency trails the district and state in all three subjects, and science fell sharply from 30.65% to 15.6% while the state barely moved. Its rank dropped from the 58th percentile with 3 stars to the 30th percentile with 2 stars. Performance is uneven by grade band: 5th grade math (19.4%) and 6th grade math (27.8%) lag, as do 10th grade reading, 11th grade math, and End-of-Course science. Elementary has higher poverty but a lower student-teacher ratio and stronger proficiency — a pattern worth noting, though the data alone cannot show cause.
