Summary:
Fisher Public School District is a small Minnesota district serving about 222 students across two schools: Fisher Elementary for grades PK–6 (123 students) and Fisher Secondary for grades 7–12 (99 students). The district overall ranks 229 out of 458 in Minnesota, at the 50th percentile with 3 stars, but that average hides sharply different school stories. Fisher Secondary has become the standout: in 2025–2026 it ranked 62 out of 473 schools, at the 87th percentile with 4 stars, up from the 27th percentile and 1 star the prior year. Fisher Elementary has been consistently lower ranked, earning 1 star in each of the last three years, with percentiles of 26, 25, and 29.
Science is the district’s clearest bright spot. In 2025–2026, district science proficiency was 30.2% versus 25.5% statewide; Fisher Elementary was 36.4% and Fisher Secondary was 28.1%. Both schools improved science from 2024–2025, especially Fisher Elementary, which rose from 7.14% to 36.4%. Reading is mixed: the district was 38.9% versus 48.6% state, with Fisher Secondary at 42.6% and Fisher Elementary at 36.4%. Bright spots include Fisher Elementary’s 6th grade reading at 60.0% versus 53.4% state and Fisher Secondary’s 10th grade reading at 53.8% versus 42.5% state.
Math is the biggest weakness. District math was 27.8% versus 44.9% state; Fisher Elementary was 31.3% and Fisher Secondary was 22.7%. The largest grade-level gap was Fisher Secondary’s 8th grade math at 10.5% versus 42.3% state. For Fisher Secondary, test-score gains coexist with completion concerns: its 2024–2025 graduation rate was 70.0% versus 84.9% state, and its dropout rate was 5.0% versus 4.2% state. Both schools serve substantial economic need, with free/reduced lunch at 50.41% at Fisher Elementary and 45.45% at Fisher Secondary. Fisher Secondary also has the lower student/teacher ratio, 9.9 versus 12.6. Because enrollments are small, year-to-year changes can be volatile.
