Summary

Holden Elementary School is a public elementary school in Sterling Heights, Michigan, serving 324 students in grades PK-6. The school is part of the Warren Consolidated Schools district, which has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Holden Elementary School faces several key challenges. Academically, the school consistently underperforms compared to the district and state averages on M-Step tests, with proficiency rates as low as 21.3% in 3rd grade English Language Arts, compared to 32.8% for the district and 38.9% for the state. The school also has a high chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 21.5% to 36.8% over the past few years, significantly higher than the state average. Additionally, Holden Elementary has a high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, with 87.32% to 90.43% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.

While Holden Elementary School's per-student spending is relatively high at $20,666 in the 2023-2024 school year, its academic outcomes lag behind both the Warren Consolidated Schools district and many nearby schools, such as Harwood Elementary School and Jefferson Elementary School, which are also part of the same district. Addressing these challenges will likely require a comprehensive approach involving targeted interventions, increased support for students and families, and a focus on improving teaching and learning practices.

Open Quote We moved to this neighborhood last year and this is the second year that my daughter is in this school. The first year there were problems with one girl that caused a problem for the whole 4th grade class. We thought that the problem was resolved last year, but it continues on in 5th grade.

If you are not of Arabic descent, then stay away from this school. They have a tendency to favor people of Arabic descent. My daughter was blamed for most of the stuff that went on and, yes some of it was her fault, but the majority of it was not.

I have no problem with people of different ethnicity, but for an American school to cater to one particular ethnicity is completely wrong. I can understand that some students need help, but what they do is ridiculous. Close Quote
