Summary

Baker Middle School is a public middle school located in Troy, Michigan, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 635 students. The school is part of the Troy School District, which is ranked 43 out of 613 districts in Michigan and is rated 5 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Baker Middle School consistently ranks among the top middle schools in Michigan, with a statewide ranking between 30-110 over the past 10 years. The school's performance on state assessments (M-Step and PSAT) is significantly higher than the state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2024-2025, Baker Middle School's proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Math were 55.9% and 58.6% for 6th grade, and 63.8% and 59.9% for 7th grade, compared to the state averages of 38.6% and 31.5% for 6th grade, and 39.2% and 33.3% for 7th grade. The school's performance on PSAT assessments for 8th grade is also impressive, with proficiency rates of 78.6% in English Language Arts and 51.9% in Mathematics, compared to the state averages of 65.3% and 30.4%.

However, Baker Middle School has experienced a significant increase in chronic absenteeism rates, from 12.8% in 2022-2023 to 29.5% in 2023-2024, which is higher than the state average. This trend is concerning and may impact the school's overall academic performance if not addressed. Compared to nearby schools in the Troy School District, such as Smith Middle School and Boulan Park Middle School, Baker Middle School's academic performance is generally stronger, but the chronic absenteeism rate is on par with these nearby schools, suggesting a district-wide challenge in addressing this issue.

Open Quote Baker is the school to be... It provides the best teaching. It's teachers are also very nice and easy to talk to. I'm very sad that my child completed 8th Grade this year, that means we have to change schools! Students are very kind and safe, my daughter has been in the school for three years, and never saw or heard of bullying or that kind of stuff. Even though Baker is a public school, it's just like a private school! Students there are very successful, and all teachers always find a way to make teaching and lessons fun. Baker also rewards A students with trips to Cleveland and Chicago! Ever year Baker hosts Scholastic Book-Fair(s), there are always deals like buy one get one free with equal or lesser value! There is always a Baker Idol in the school year! There are just so many good things about Baker... The list goes on and on! HAVE to try it! Close Quote
