Heritage School in Stockbridge, MI, is an upper elementary school serving 331 students in grades 3 through 6 as part of the Stockbridge Community Schools district.

Heritage School is a school on the rise. After several years of hovering near the state average, the school made a significant leap in the 2025-2026 school year, jumping to the 70th percentile statewide and earning a 4-star rating. This improvement was consistent across nearly every grade and subject. For example, 6th-grade reading proficiency nearly doubled from 23% to 46%, and 5th-grade science scores jumped from 40% to 54%. What makes this even more impressive is that about 42% of students come from low-income backgrounds, yet the school ranks in the 80th percentile statewide specifically for this group of students. That means Heritage is doing an exceptional job of helping all students succeed, regardless of their economic circumstances. The school also has a strong culture of attendance, with a chronic absenteeism rate (15.6%) that is well below both the district (20.1%) and state (27.9%) averages.

Heritage's performance is particularly notable when compared to nearby schools. Despite serving a more economically diverse population, Heritage outperforms George Long Elementary School in the neighboring Grass Lake Community Schools district, which has a lower poverty rate. In fact, Heritage's 4th-grade math proficiency (63%) was dramatically higher than George Long's (38%). Even more striking, Heritage's 4th-grade math scores were on par with South Meadows Elementary School in the highly-ranked Chelsea School District, despite Chelsea having a much wealthier student body. While Heritage shows strong results in 3rd and 4th grades, there is a noticeable dip in math proficiency in 5th and 6th grades, suggesting a potential area of focus as students tackle more complex material. Still, the overall trajectory is remarkably positive, making Heritage a standout choice for families in the Stockbridge area.
