Summary

Lincoln School is an elementary public magnet school located in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, serving grades PK-7 with a total enrollment of 350 students. The school is part of the Sault Ste. Marie Area Schools district, which is ranked 371 out of 613 districts in Michigan and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Lincoln School has seen fluctuations in its statewide ranking, ranging from 416 out of 1,548 Michigan elementary schools in 2015-2016 (4-star rating) to 853 out of 1,488 in 2024-2025 (2-star rating), its performance varies significantly across different student subgroups. The school performs relatively well for White students and Special Education students, but struggles with Native American students and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Additionally, Lincoln School has consistently high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 24.8% to 36.8% over the past few years, which could be a contributing factor to the school's academic performance.

When comparing Lincoln School to the nearby Washington Elementary School (within the same district) and Joseph K Lumsden Bahweting Anishnabe Academy (a public charter school), some interesting patterns emerge. Washington Elementary School has a higher statewide ranking and better academic performance than Lincoln School, despite serving a higher percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. Meanwhile, Joseph K Lumsden Bahweting Anishnabe Academy, a public charter school, has a lower statewide ranking than Lincoln School but outperforms it on many academic measures, particularly in higher grade levels.

Open Quote it is impossible to establish any kind of relationship with the school or the district. i thought a school was supposed to work WITH parents for a childs education... at every turn, when i challenge that the school might improve their services to my family (nothing big... things like asking that my daughter wear her glasses)i am treated like i am a moron. recently i asked that the school evaluate my daughter for speech services. as part of my request, i let them know i noticed her tongue protruded more than it used to. now in her file, it says basically... the mother doesnt know what she is talking about, this childs tongue isnt getting worse... kind of hard to detrmine that when they hadnt ever seen her tongue before, right?
