Mesick Consolidated JrSr High School is a small, rural public school in Mesick, MI, serving 276 students in grades 6 through 12 as part of the Mesick Consolidated Schools district. The school has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years, climbing from a 1-star rating in 2021-2022 to a 3-star rating today, and now ranks in the 64th percentile statewide—a dramatic jump from the 13th percentile just a few years ago.

What truly sets Mesick apart is its exceptional success with students from low-income backgrounds. Despite nearly half of its students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, the school ranks in the 85th percentile statewide for this subgroup, earning a 4-star rating. This is particularly impressive when compared to nearby Cadillac Innovation High School, which serves a higher percentage of low-income students (71%) but performs in the 15th percentile. Mesick also shines in upper-grade Science and Social Studies—11th graders hit 50% proficiency in Science and 71.9% in Social Studies, outpacing the state averages of 35.2% and 43.2%, respectively. In fact, its Social Studies scores were the highest among all comparison schools, including the higher-ranked Kingsley Area High School.
