Summary

Monroe Road Elementary School in Lambertville, MI, is a mid-sized school serving 595 students from Pre-K through 5th grade as part of the highly-rated Bedford Public Schools district, which ranks in the 86th percentile statewide.

One of the most striking things about Monroe Road is its exceptional student attendance. In the 2024-2025 school year, only 5.2% of students were chronically absent—far better than the district average of 8.3% and dramatically lower than the state average of 27.9%. This is also the lowest rate among nearby schools, including Jackman Road Elementary School (15.8%) and Douglas Road Elementary School (5.1%). The school has shown a strong rebound from a post-pandemic spike in absenteeism (20.9% in 2022-2023), and this improvement has coincided with a steady rise in its overall state ranking from the 76th to the 81st percentile. Monroe Road also stands out within its district: its 5th-grade ELA proficiency (67.6%) is significantly higher than Jackman Road (62.1%) and Douglas Road (38.8%).

Monroe Road demonstrates a clear commitment to supporting all learners. Its special education students ranked in the 85th percentile statewide in 2024-2025—a remarkable achievement. Additionally, 5th graders consistently excel in science, with 61.4% proficient in 2025-2026, compared to 56.8% for the district and 40% statewide. However, there is a notable dip in 5th-grade math proficiency (48.5% vs. 53.3% in 3rd grade), suggesting a potential challenge in the transition to more complex concepts. The school also shows a downward trend in performance for students from low socio-economic backgrounds, dropping from the 79th to the 54th percentile over three years—an area that may warrant attention. Overall, Monroe Road is a strong, well-attended school with particular strengths in special education and science, though families may want to ask about math support in the upper grades.

Open Quote This school is honestly one of the worst I’ve seen as far as office staff go. The immaturity of the receptionist and the lack of respect they have for parents, never seizes to amaze me. Talking badly about each other, parents and actually telling me that my 5 year old can walk himself to class, after I’ve been doing this for awhile now, just trying to bate me into a verbal argument, which of course worked, as I told this Angie to learn her place! I am the mother not the school! To tell a parent they can’t walk their child to class is proving all the more how schools are trying to take over your rights as a parent and control our children, brainwashing them with the lies, garbage they’ve been telling us for decades! The other receptionist at this particular school was just as rude, so I let her know what I thought as well. These pathetic people are under the illusion that they are somehow better than everyone else because they work in a school that’s located in a town that openly discriminates against minority’s and those who aren’t originally from the area. This town and school are the worst I’ve ever seen and I’d recommend going to any other school over this one! Close Quote
