Summary

Branch Line School is a public charter elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Livonia, Michigan, with 160 students. While it is a relatively small school compared to the nearby Livonia Public Schools district, Branch Line School has consistently been rated 2 out of 5 stars by SchoolDigger, indicating below-average performance compared to other Michigan elementary schools.

One of the key challenges facing Branch Line School is its high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 29.5% to 41.5% in recent years, significantly higher than the 29.5% rate reported for the nearby Livonia public schools. Additionally, Branch Line School's student proficiency rates on the M-Step and PSAT assessments are generally lower than the state and Livonia district averages across grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2024-2025, only 22.7% of 3rd graders were proficient in ELA, compared to the state average of 38.9%. The school also has a high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, with 53.75% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in 2023-2024, much higher than the rates at the nearby Livonia public schools.

While the nearby Roosevelt, Hoover, and Buchanan elementary schools generally outperform Branch Line School, one notable exception is Webster Elementary, a public magnet school in the Livonia district that consistently ranks as one of the top-performing elementary schools in the state. To improve its performance, Branch Line School could focus on addressing the high chronic absenteeism rates, implementing targeted interventions to support struggling students, and exploring ways to increase funding and resources to better support its student population.

Open Quote The school refuses to deal with a SEVERE bullying issue with 1 child who,on a daily basis, bullied multiple students. The principle cares less and even chose to reward the “bully” by allowing him to be on the schools service patrol. The school board also refuses to address this ongoing issue for TWO years now.
