The school also performs well in PSAT/English Language Arts and PSAT/Mathematics for 8th-grade students, with 73% and 51.4% proficiency rates, respectively, compared to the state averages of 65.3% and 30.4%. However, Rochester Community Schools Virtual Campus, a public magnet virtual school, outperforms Merritt Academy in several academic areas, including SAT/Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and SAT/Mathematics for 11th-grade students.

However, Merritt Academy has experienced higher chronic absenteeism rates compared to the state average, ranging from 25.0% to 30.8% in recent years, which may be an area of concern and could impact the school's overall academic performance.

Open Quote The firemans kids go here. The village administration loves it. The kids I see that go here are respectful citizens and I am proud to live walking distance to such a great pillar of the community. People come from all over St Clair and Macomb counties to use this school. It is in a very safe family environment and neighborhood. Walkable, more side walks coming. Lots of events and activities. It really does take a village and the Village of New Haven is proud of its students and their accomplishments!!! Close Quote

Open Quote The school has gone to pot since the new principal took over last year. They got rid of good teachers and kept bad teachers, the PTO disbanded, the school lunches are cold and disgusting, the principal doesn't get back to you when you leave messages (some teachers don't either)... They advertise this peer mentor program they started as some great program but what it is is just having classmates help special ed kids instead of the teacher doing it (at the expense of the general ed kid's learning time). The letters that come home from school almost always have spelling and grammar errors in them. Close Quote
