Old Redford Academy High is a public charter high school in Detroit, MI, serving 451 students in grades 9 through 12 within the Old Redford Academy district.

The most pressing concern for families is the school's catastrophic chronic absenteeism rate. In the 2024-2025 school year, a staggering 88.1% of students were chronically absent—meaning nearly 9 out of 10 students missed significant amounts of school. This is more than double the rate at nearby Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (39.7%) and Communication and Media Arts High School (36.5%), and even higher than Mumford High School (76.9%) and Henry Ford High School (82.5%). On a positive note, Old Redford's graduation rate improved to 81.2% in 2024-2025, up from 74.3% the prior year, and is higher than Henry Ford High School (67.2%). However, the dropout rate of 16.6% remains more than double the state average. The school spends $15,449 per student—more than Jalen Rose Leadership Academy ($13,642)—yet outcomes are far worse, suggesting resources are not translating into classroom support. For parents, the urgent question is whether the school can address its attendance crisis and provide the consistent, supportive environment students need to succeed.

This is a terrible school. They worry more about their uniforms than the education that the student is getting. This school is just a mess. Very UN-ORGANIZED! I remember we had a different teacher almost every day! Then we had different principles almost every month until we got Mr. Robie, I hear he's gone now. We had crazy teachers, one of them threw crayons at a student. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE. The emphasis is NOT ON EDUCATION, but rather having your uniform correct. Close Quote
