Voyageur College Prep has consistently ranked in the bottom 10-15% of Michigan high schools over the past several years, with a ranking of 738 out of 739 schools in the 2024-2025 school year. The school's rankings for specific student groups, such as female, male, and low socioeconomic status students, are also in the bottom 10-15% of Michigan high schools. Voyageur College Prep has had four-year graduation rates ranging from 81.7% to 91.4% over the past few years, which are below the state average, and the school's dropout rates have ranged from 7.6% to 10.4%, which are higher than the state average. Additionally, Voyageur College Prep has experienced high rates of chronic absenteeism, ranging from 29.5% to 63.1% in recent years, significantly above the state average.

The nearby schools, such as Detroit Public Safety Academy, Covenant High School Central, and Western International High School, have similar low rankings, graduation rates, test scores, and high rates of free/reduced lunch and chronic absenteeism, suggesting that Voyageur College Prep is not an outlier in the local educational landscape. While Voyageur College Prep's per-student spending is lower than some nearby schools, it does not appear to be a significant factor in the school's overall performance, as the nearby schools with higher spending also struggle with similar challenges.

Open Quote Do NOT send your children to this school. Incompetence is how I would describe this school. They say that they are an open-door school, that's a lie. They told me that the teachers have to have 24 hours notice to know if a parent is coming to the school. When I asked if I could speak to them right now. She went to check with the teachers and they refused to see me to discuss my child's academic work. So, if this school is open-door like they say it is, what happened? They told me I had to make an appointment to talk to a teacher. Really?? I have been to other schools and never have been treated like this. I cannot even go to the classroom to watch the teacher teach, as I have done in other schools in the same district.

Think very carefully before putting your children at this school. This is a charter school ran like a public school. I am still waiting for the secretary to call me with an appointment with the principle, it has been a month. Close Quote
