Emmorton stands out for its exceptional academic performance, with 50.5% of students proficient in Math and 70.2% in English Language Arts (ELA)—nearly double the district average for Math (28.4%) and well above the district average for ELA (61.1%). The school also boasts a remarkably low chronic absenteeism rate of just 7.0%, far below the district average of 18.5% and significantly lower than nearby schools like Old Post Road Elementary (29.9%) and Joppatowne Elementary (23.1%). The school is part of a high-performing cluster in the Bel Air area, including Bel Air Elementary and Ring Factory, which contrasts sharply with lower-performing schools just a few miles away, such as Edgewood and Abingdon Elementary. For example, Emmorton outperforms Abingdon by 12 percentage points in Math and 13 points in ELA, highlighting the powerful impact of school-specific culture and leadership.

Open Quote My child has been in Emmorton Elementary for three years, and we love the teachers there. The school is a bit overcrowded (there are several portable classrooms outside of the school), but the children don't seem to be overcrowded. There is a new principal this year (he is great), and through the third grade, no one has ever suggested we intentionally try to avoid a teacher. That is huge. I have not heard anything bad about 4th or 5th grade, but we have no experience with those grades yet.

A wonderful school. Close Quote
