Summary

Mace's Lane Middle School is a public middle school in Cambridge, Maryland, serving 465 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Dorchester County Public Schools district, which is ranked 19 out of 25 in Maryland and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger. The data reveals some key areas of concern for Mace's Lane Middle School. The school has had extremely high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 38.3% to 57.1% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the state average and the rates of the nearby North Dorchester Middle School and Colonel Richardson Middle School. Additionally, the school's test scores are consistently well below the state and district averages across all subjects and grade levels, with particularly low performance in mathematics.

Despite the relatively high spending per student at Mace's Lane Middle School, ranging from $14,778 to $24,534 over the past few years, the school's performance remains significantly below the state and district averages. This raises questions about the effective allocation and utilization of resources to support student learning. Addressing the root causes of chronic absenteeism and implementing targeted strategies to improve academic outcomes should be a priority for the school and district.

Open Quote Looking at Mace's Lane history, you want to cry for anyone and everyone associated with the school. A quick look at their test results shows a 10yr roller coaster from a 2004 grade8 proficiency percentage of 20%, but then over the next 5yrs, ML struggled but climbed to 55% proficiency IN 2009. The next 5yrs with poor administration, hopelessness within the staff, and zero inclination to find a bit of discipline, the school steeply plummeted back down to 25.9% for the grade8 graduates. The School Board unanimously rejected the efforts to bring the Maryland Eastern Shore a charter school that would attempt a more focused agenda. Every year another year's class moves ahead with little if any progress and little hope for improvement. The Board of Education, the administration, and the Maryland State of Education are all to blame. Close Quote
