Summary

Lindale Middle in Linthicum, MD, serves 884 students in grades 6-8 and is part of the Anne Arundel County Public Schools district, with over half of its students (56.9%) qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.

The most striking feature of Lindale Middle is its exceptional performance in Algebra I, which far exceeds both district and state averages. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, 72.4% of Lindale students taking Algebra I were proficient, compared to just 22% district-wide and 21.4% statewide. This creates a "two-schools" dynamic: a select group of advanced math students achieves at an elite level, while the majority of students in standard grade-level math struggle significantly. In contrast, nearby Elkridge Landing Middle in Howard County shows more balanced, high performance across all subjects, with 44.6% math proficiency and 63.9% ELA proficiency. Lindale also stands out for its strong support of military-connected students, ranking 9th out of 27 schools statewide for this subgroup, likely due to its proximity to Fort Meade. However, the school operates with relatively low spending per student ($16,526 in 2023-2024) compared to peers like Brooklyn Park Middle ($20,930) and Corkran Middle School ($20,171).

Chronic absenteeism remains a persistent challenge, with a 2024-2025 rate of 21.7%—above the district average of 19.9%—which is strongly linked to lower test scores. While Lindale serves its African American and Hispanic students relatively well compared to other schools statewide, it struggles significantly with its White student population, ranking in the bottom 17th percentile. Overall, Lindale holds a 2-star rating, having dropped from a consistent 3-star rating between 2016 and 2022, and its state ranking has trended slightly downward in recent years.

Open Quote Lindale Elementary school in Linthicum Heights, MD claims they have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to bullying. My autistic son has been a victim of bullying and threats for the past two years. We have submitted several bully forms, talked to both the principal (Mr. Nash) and vice principal (Ms. Lombardi), talked to police, sent the issue to the Superintendent, and requested the school to keep the children separated. Instead, they put the kids in the same class, and I asked for that issue to be rectified, they took my child out of the class (he loved that class and was excelling), put him in another gym class, thus, rewarding the bullying child.

Since, a local deputy from the Anne Arundel police department has talked with the child, and only explained what could happen. The parents have been contacted, and they too haven't done a thing. When I talked to the deputy again, I asked to press charges. He said he would respond, and he never did.

I bring this to you knowing that schools that claim no tolerance for bullies get funding. Well it doesn't seem to be working with Lindale Middle School. I would like to make the public aware. No child should face bullying to this extent, especially not an autistic child, no matter where on the spectrum. Close Quote
