Summary:

Eight elementary schools serve roughly 2,128 students in ZIP code 01201, all within the Pittsfield district, with seven offering PK–5 and Crosby Educational Academy serving K–5. As a district, Pittsfield sits at the 18th percentile (1 star, ranked 287 of 351), but the individual schools are strikingly different: 2025–2026 ELA scores run from 0% to 53.92%, and science from 7.27% to 69.39%. Williams and Egremont are the only two of eight schools that beat state averages in all three subjects (ELA 40.03%, math 41.11%, science 40.98%).

Williams leads on ELA and math with 53.92%, 51.49%, and 50.00% science, ranking at the 70th percentile with 3 stars, though its science dropped from 72.00% to 50.00%. Egremont is the science standout at 69.39%—28.41 points above the state—but its math fell from 58.43% to 45.95% and it ranks at the 61st percentile. Allendale sits mid-tier, nearly matching the state in ELA at 37.25%. Stearns is unusual: science is 40.74%, essentially at the state average, while ELA and math are both 25.53%; it also has the lowest student-teacher ratio among regular schools at 6.9. Crosby improved in every subject. At the low end, Silvio O Conte Community scored 5.66% ELA, 9.55% math, and 7.27% science (1st percentile, 0 stars), and Morningside Community School scored 17.86% ELA, 13.10% math, and 20.00% science.

Only two of eight schools beat the state in ELA and math, and two of seven in science, yet four of eight beat district ELA averages, five of eight beat district math, and five of seven beat district science—so most schools still outperform the district. Spending and staffing do not track results neatly: typical per-student spending is about $19,304. Crosby Educational Academy spends $50,584 per student with only 24 students and the lowest ratio at 3.4, so its 0% ELA and 8.33% math should be read cautiously, and its science is not listed. Spending figures come from 2020–2021, and science is tested only in grade 5, so small grade cohorts can swing results.
