Summary

Boston Collegiate Charter School is a public charter school at 11 Mayhew Street in Dorchester, MA, serving 708 students in grades 5–12 and operating as its own district, Boston Collegiate Charter (District). That district ranks 145th of 351 statewide (59th percentile, 3 stars), placing it well above the Boston district, which sits at the 15th percentile. Its history, however, is volatile: it ranked 1st of 351 statewide in 2015–2016, dropped into the 30s–50s percentiles for much of the 2020s, and has since rebounded to 52nd percentile in 2025–2026.

Academics are strongest in math. All-grade MCAS results were 53.77% proficient in math versus 41.11% statewide, and 45.81% in English language arts versus 40.03% statewide, while science came in at 35.14% against 40.98% statewide. Tenth-grade results follow the same pattern, and physics End-of-Course proficiency was 28.74% versus 46.58% statewide. Middle school results are uneven: 6th grade is a standout (ELA 62.5%, math 68.57%), while 5th grade trails the state. Compared with nearby open-enrollment schools such as Madison Park Technical Vocational High School, Dearborn STEM Academy, and Excel High School, where proficiency often sits in the single digits, Boston Collegiate Charter School is far ahead. Only the selective exam schools, O'Bryant School of Math & Science and Boston Latin Academy, clearly outrank it.

Completion outcomes are a major strength: a 94.6% graduation rate and 0.0% dropout rate in 2024–2025, up sharply from 81.9% and 4.2% the year before, and second only to the two exam schools. Subgroup effectiveness rankings are mixed — Hispanic students and low-socioeconomic-status students rank in the 81st percentile, while African American students rank in the 34th percentile, and special education effectiveness has slipped from the 92nd percentile in 2023–2024 to the 55th in 2025–2026. Spending per student ($21,784–$23,073) is lower than most nearby Boston high schools, with a 9.6 student-teacher ratio. This school practices discrimination. I had a child attend this school for two years. In those two years he was taunted & bullied by the staff. My child ended up with severe anxious issues. They would use any excuse to discipline him. So far as suspension for socks, detention for talking in the halls and even tried to hold my son back for failing 1 class. Never offering him tutoring or any extra help. The Dean at this school has zero experience in education and is over excited to discipline a child. I wish I never sent my child here this will effect him for the rest of his life. Horrible school. Close Quote
