Hatfield, Massachusetts is a small district with just two public schools serving students from pre-kindergarten through high school: Hatfield Elementary (PK–5, 201 students) and Smith Academy (grades 6–12, 109 students), together enrolling 310 students. All-grade math is 24.59% and all-grade science 18.75%, both far below state. The 2024–2025 graduation rate is 90.0% with a 10.0% dropout rate. Its rank history is erratic: 90th percentile and 5 stars in 2022–2023, 67th percentile and 3 stars in 2023–2024, then 74th percentile and 4 stars in 2024–2025. Despite a lower student–teacher ratio (6.0 vs. 10.9) and higher per-student spending ($16,622 vs. $15,326), its math and middle-school science proficiency lag well behind Hatfield Elementary.
