Central Berkshire

Central Berkshire is a district in the Berkshire region of western Massachusetts serving roughly 1,537 students across five schools — three elementary schools (Craneville, Kittredge, and Becket Washington School), one middle school (Nessacus Regional Middle School), and one high school (Wahconah Regional High). The district ranks 140th out of 351 in Massachusetts — about the 60th percentile — with a 3-star rating.

Among the elementary and middle schools, the smallest schools post the strongest 2025-26 results. Becket Washington School (91 students) has the highest rank percentile at 70, with ELA at 50.00%, math at 53.19%, and science at 69.23% — all well above district and state. Kittredge has the top math score at 57.35% and science at 59.09%, and jumped from the 44th to the 66th percentile. Both, however, have very weak 4th grade results, showing how small cohorts can swing sharply. Nessacus Regional Middle School is strong in ELA (48.04%) and science (51.69%) but math is its clear weak point at 38.10%, below both district and state. At the high school level, Wahconah Regional High has a 95.0% graduation rate and a 3.3% dropout rate, but its 10th grade MCAS scores dropped from 2024-25 to 2025-26 in ELA, math, and science.

Craneville is the largest school (458 students) and is strongest in math at 49.33%, above district and state, while its science fell to 37.50%, below both. Spending and staffing show no simple link to results: Becket has the highest per-pupil spending ($21,213) and lowest student-teacher ratio (10.2), Kittredge has the highest ratio (14.4) with the top math scores, and Nessacus has the lowest spending ($16,499).
