Summary:
Dedham, Massachusetts is home to five elementary schools — Avery, Greenlodge, Early Childhood Center, Oakdale, and Riverdale — enrolling 1,394 students in all, with four serving grades 1–5 and reporting MCAS results, and a fifth, Early Childhood Center, serving only PK–K with no test or ranking data. The Dedham district ranks 148 of 351 statewide, in the 58th percentile with 3 stars, and its 2025–26 all-grade averages are 45.03% proficient in ELA, 48.84% in math, and 34.34% in science — above the state in ELA and math, but below the state's 40.98% in science.
Two schools stand out. Greenlodge ranks 174 of 899 (81st percentile, 4 stars) and posts 58.56% in ELA, 65.19% in math, and 42.86% in science — the strongest math result among the tested schools, including the highest single grade-subject score in the data, 74.07% in 4th grade math. Oakdale is a close second at 195 of 899 (78th percentile, 4 stars), with 58.67% in ELA — the highest all-grade ELA score by a tiny margin — 60.00% in math, and 44.44% in science. Both beat district and state averages in all three subjects, and Oakdale improved sharply from the 62nd percentile a year earlier to the 78th.
Riverdale is improving but uneven: 378 of 899 (58th percentile, 3 stars), above the state in all three subjects and posting the highest all-grade science score among tested schools at 45.00%, yet below the district in math, with 3rd grade math at 63.89% versus just 31.71% in 4th grade. Avery is the clear outlier, ranking 650 of 899 (28th percentile, 1 star) and falling below district and state in every reported subject — 28.88% ELA, 29.41% math, 26.39% science — despite enrolling nearly the same number of students as Greenlodge. Keep in mind that science scores fell at every tested school year over year, and free/reduced lunch data is not reported, so spending and demographics cannot be tied to these results.
