Summary

Lee Road Junior High School in Covington, LA, serves 727 students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade within the highly-ranked St. Tammany Parish school district, and has earned a 4-star rating from the state for eight consecutive years.

This school stands out for its exceptional advanced math program, with 100% of Algebra I test-takers scoring proficient in the most recent year—far above the district and state averages. Lee Road also consistently outperforms state proficiency rates in all core subjects by 10 to 13 points, and it does an impressive job supporting all students, ranking in the 75th percentile for special education and the 79th percentile for low socioeconomic status students. With a low student-teacher ratio of 11.6:1, the school provides a more intimate learning environment than nearby schools like Joseph B. Lancaster Elementary School (16.2:1) and Folsom Elementary School (12.3:1). While its overall academic performance is strong, chronic absenteeism has risen sharply from 3.8% to 21.9% in recent years, a trend that families may want to monitor.

Compared to its closest counterpart, Fifth Ward Junior High School (9.4 miles away), Lee Road achieves similar math and ELA proficiency rates (75% and 81%, respectively) despite serving a more economically diverse population. However, Lee Road’s standout Algebra I program is a clear differentiator, as Fifth Ward does not appear to offer the course. In contrast, nearby schools like Covington Elementary School and E. E. Lyon Elementary School have lower proficiency rates and higher percentages of students receiving free or reduced lunch, highlighting Lee Road’s effectiveness in supporting its own students. Overall, Lee Road has shown a steady, long-term upward trend in state rankings, climbing from the 69th percentile in 2016 to the 75th percentile today, reflecting a sustained commitment to improvement.
