Summary

Florida Avenue Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 478 students in grades PK-6 in Slidell, Louisiana, which is part of the St. Tammany Parish school district. While the district is ranked 19th out of 118 in the state and has a 4-star rating, Florida Avenue Elementary has consistently underperformed compared to district and state averages on standardized assessments.

The school's proficiency rates in Mathematics and English Language Arts lag behind the district and state, with just 44% and 56% of students meeting proficiency in the 2024-2025 school year, compared to 69% and 79% for the district, and 60% and 70% for the state. Additionally, the school struggles to effectively serve certain student subgroups, with rankings in the bottom half of Louisiana elementary schools for African American, Hispanic, White, and low-income students. However, the school's ranking for Special Education students is stronger, placing in the middle third of schools.

Nearby Honey Island Elementary, Whispering Forest Elementary, and Bayou Woods Elementary all outperform Florida Avenue Elementary on academic measures. The school's high rates of poverty and chronic absenteeism may be contributing factors to its academic struggles, and implementing targeted interventions to address these challenges could be crucial next steps in improving student outcomes.

Open Quote Teachers lacked the skills needed to address the learning needs of the children. My son's teacher simply sent home workbooks for me to teach, after a full day of school and my full time job. I found myself also doing the teachers most basic job. Close Quote
