Northwood High School has shown consistent improvement in several key metrics. The school's four-year graduation rates have increased from 82.7% in 2021-2022 to 93.3% in 2022-2023, and its dropout rate has decreased from 4.3% to 1.0% during the same period. However, the school has experienced a rise in chronic absenteeism, from 17.0% in 2022-2023 to 24.6% in 2023-2024. Northwood High School outperforms the Rapides Parish and Louisiana state averages in several subject areas and grade levels, particularly in English Language Arts and Algebra I, with projected proficiency rates of 78% in ELA for all grades in 2024-2025, compared to 76% for Rapides Parish and 70% for Louisiana.

Compared to the nearby Oak Hill High School, also in the Rapides Parish district, Northwood High School's performance is generally stronger. For example, in 2024-2025, Northwood's projected proficiency rates in Mathematics (65%) and English Language Arts (78%) for all grades are higher than Oak Hill's (76% and 76%, respectively). This suggests that Northwood High School is making progress in addressing the needs of its student population, which includes a higher percentage of economically disadvantaged students, as indicated by its free/reduced lunch rates ranging from 45.3% to 81.78% over the past few years.

Open Quote Northwood High recently received a technology grant that has allowed all of the High School students to receive their own laptop computer to use at school. Northwood has more technology available than any other school in the parish. The teachers and staff are wonderful. Close Quote
