Summary

Boothville-Venice Elementary School in Boothville, LA, serves 270 students from Pre-K through 6th grade in the Plaquemines Parish school district, a high-performing district ranking in the 80th percentile statewide.

This school has a strong historical track record, consistently earning 4-star ratings from the state for most of the last decade. However, recent data shows a shift, with the school dropping to a 3-star rating in the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years. The most significant factor appears to be a sharp rise in chronic absenteeism, which jumped from a low 11.9% in 2022-2023 to 35.6% in 2023-2024, now well above both district and state averages. Despite this overall decline, Boothville-Venice continues to outperform its nearby peer, South Plaquemines Elementary School, across nearly all academic metrics. For example, in the 2025-2026 school year, Boothville-Venice ranked 278th out of 690 schools (60th percentile), while South Plaquemines ranked 408th (41st percentile). The school also shows particular strength in 4th grade, where students achieved an 87% proficiency rate in Math, matching the district average and far exceeding South Plaquemines' 43%.

Boothville-Venice has historically shown exceptional effectiveness with specific student groups, achieving a 5-star rating for English Language Learner students and a 4-star rating for Special Education students in prior years. While recent performance for some student groups has declined, the school's past success with diverse learners and the current strong performance of its 4th graders provide a foundation of proven strategies to build upon. The school serves a predominantly low-income population, with over 74% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, and its recent challenges highlight the need for targeted interventions to address the absenteeism crisis and support all students in returning to their historically high levels of achievement.

Open Quote Two of our children go there & they absolutely love going to this school. They have attended a different Elementary & Pre-K School, which they really enjoyed as well. However there's one BIG difference between the 2 schools that makes BVES stand out more.... the "unity" & "feeling as is the whole school is like 1 big family", which the other school didn't have that feeling bc it was "too big" (student/ teacher ratio) & the students have more 1on 1 with their students @ BVES. As of yesterday,10-21-14, BVES "School Performance Score" is a 108.7 -Rated "A"!! The students are very herd working as well as the teachers, the staff, & of course, the principal, Mrs. Proutt! <3 Close Quote
