Summary

Judson Fundamental Elementary School in Shreveport, LA, serves 312 students in grades PK-5 within the Caddo Parish school district, and it stands out as a stable academic option in a neighborhood where many surrounding schools are struggling significantly.

One of the most remarkable things about Judson is its incredibly low chronic absenteeism rate—only 9.6% of students were chronically absent in the 2024-2025 school year. This is dramatically lower than the district average of 31% and far better than nearby schools like Creswell Elementary School (38.3%) and J. S. Clark Elementary School (43.0%). This suggests a strong school culture where students are engaged and families prioritize attendance. Academically, Judson is achieving above-average test scores despite serving a population where about 70% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. In the most recent year, overall proficiency rates in math (68%), ELA (78%), and social studies (57%) significantly outpaced district averages and were competitive with state averages. This is a stark contrast to many nearby schools with similar poverty rates, such as Westwood Elementary School and Caddo Heights Math/Science Elementary School, which score 20-40 percentage points lower in every subject.

However, Judson has experienced some volatility in recent years, with its state ranking dropping from a high of the 91st percentile in 2017 to the 42nd percentile in the most recent data. This is especially notable when compared to Claiborne Fundamental Elementary School, another "Fundamental" school just 1.55 miles away that ranks in the 97th percentile with near-perfect test scores. While Judson has historically been very effective with its African American students (ranking in the 92nd and 93rd percentiles in recent years), the school's recent challenges appear to be disproportionately affecting its most vulnerable students. For parents, Judson offers a solid, community-focused education with strong attendance habits, but it's worth noting the school's recent performance swings and the potential to learn from nearby high-performing peers.

Open Quote I have nothing to say because the school I go to now, SHOUT OUT TO DONNIE BICKHAM, is amazing! We just got our award for our second nine week grades and if you get a certificate, they come to classes with a treat trolli, which has all different types of candy. They inform the parents 24/7. Everything is up to date. The teachers are lean back and relaxed. No homework unless, you have incomplete assignments. They may not be a magnet school, but they are amazing! They encourage, speak truth, help, and honor their students. If you want a school like Donnie Bickham, come to Donnie Bickham. If you want a lazy, over-work, harsh, mean, and BORING school, well go and stay at Judson Fundamental "magnet". As a matter of face, Counselor, Katherine Metcalf tried to stop me from going to Donnie Bickham, which by the way, has always been my dream school, DREAM CRUSHER! THIS IS A MAGNET SCHOOL, AND YET THEY STILL FAIL TO SUCCED. DBMS (Donnie Bickham Middle School) stands for D-Demonstrate Responsibility, B-Be on Task, M-Make Good Choices, and S-Show Respect. JUDSON CAN"T AND WON"T EVER BE THOSE THINGS. THEY WILL NEVER BE LIKE DBMS. AND THEY WILL NEVER BE A TRUE MAGNET SCHOOL! Close Quote
