Summary:
Four schools in 40447 serve students from prekindergarten through grade 12: McKee Elementary School (PK–5), Jackson County Middle School (6–8), Jackson County High School (9–12), and Jackson County Schools Learning Center (7–12). The Learning Center’s 2025–26 test results are suppressed. The clearest takeaway is that reported achievement differs sharply by grade band: elementary results are well above state levels, while middle-school results are mostly below them.
McKee Elementary is the strongest reported performer: all nine subject-grade results were above the state, averaging 30 percentage points higher. Its third-grade reading was 86%, compared with 49% statewide (+37 points), and fourth-grade math was 79% versus 43% (+36 points). At the other end, Jackson County Middle was below the state in eight of nine results, averaging 8 points below; its largest shortfall was eighth-grade writing, 31% versus 48% (−17 points). Jackson County High falls between them, averaging 7 points above the state, with five of six results above it, including 11th-grade science at 36% versus 23% (+13 points).
Results improved overall from 2024–25 to 2025–26, but not evenly: the average state-relative gap across comparable results rose by 4 points, and the middle school’s average gap narrowed while remaining below the state. SchoolDigger ranks McKee 19th of 684 elementary schools, at the 97th percentile with five stars; the middle school ranks 237th of 326, at the 27th percentile with one star. The high school is at the 74th percentile with four stars, after dipping and then partly recovering. As context, in 2024–25, 73% of students at both McKee and the middle school were free/reduced lunch eligible; student-teacher ratios were 13 and 14.7, respectively. The high school also had 47% chronic absenteeism in 2025–26, compared with 24% statewide, despite mostly above-state test results.
