Summary:
ZIP code 40215 has six schools—four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school—with 3,828 students in all; enrollment ranges from 419 to 1,301. The schools serve students from elementary through high school, but their strongest local results still fall short of state proficiency levels. The clearest concern is that every reported 2025–2026 test score is below the state rate, with particularly low high-school results at Iroquois High.
Hazelwood Elementary stands out in reading: it reached 33% proficiency in both grades 4 and 5, leading the listed schools by 11 points in grade 4 and 6 points in grade 5. Those scores were still below state rates of 50% and 51%. Frayser Elementary led grade 5 math at 29%, compared with 15% at Semple Elementary; Semple led grade 4 math at 22%, compared with Frayser’s 12%. At the lower end, Frayser had the lowest grade 4 reading score, 15%, while Semple had the lowest grade 5 writing score, 7%. Frederick Law Olmsted Academy North scored 6% in grade 8 reading, and Iroquois scored 11% in grade 10 reading, 38 points below the state rate.
Results moved only modestly overall: across 38 comparable test results, school scores rose by about 1 percentage point on average, with Hazelwood up 4 points across its available results and Olmsted and Frayser each down about 1 point. SchoolDigger’s current statewide rankings are low across the group: 6th percentile for Hazelwood, 5th for Frayser, 2nd for Semple and Olmsted, 1st for Jacob Elementary and 0th for Iroquois. The elementary schools have similar student–teacher ratios—14.0 to 14.8—yet results differ, so those ratios do not sort them into a clear performance order. All six report that 77% to 90% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible in 2024–2025. Iroquois also has the highest chronic absenteeism, 57%, compared with 24% statewide, alongside an 82% graduation rate versus 94% statewide.
