Summary

Sherman Elementary serves 415 students in prekindergarten through grade 5 in Dry Ridge, in rural Grant County. Its latest Kentucky assessment results are mixed: fifth-grade reading and math are at state levels, while several other subjects and grades lag. The clearest concern is fifth-grade writing: 13% of students were proficient in 2025–2026, compared with 35% statewide and 16% in the district.

The school’s strongest results are in fifth-grade reading and math, both matching state proficiency rates at 51% and 43%, respectively; its third- and fourth-grade results are lower. Results have moved in different directions: fifth-grade reading rose from 43% to 51% between 2022–2023 and 2025–2026, while writing fell from 39% to 13%. In 2024–2025, 82% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible, the highest rate among nearby schools with that same measure and year. The student-teacher ratio was 15.9, close to the nearby-school average of 15.8. Chronic absenteeism improved to 17% in 2025–2026, below the district’s 22% and the state’s 24%.
