Summary

Adair County High School is a public high school located in Columbia, Kentucky, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 796 students. The school is part of the Adair County School District, which is ranked 91 out of 157 districts in Kentucky and is rated 2 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Adair County High School has shown mixed academic performance compared to the state averages. While the school outperforms the state in some subject areas like 10th grade reading and 11th grade writing, it underperforms in others like 11th grade ACT English, math, and reading. The school's proficiency rates in science and social studies also lag behind the state averages. Additionally, the school has a concerning chronic absenteeism rate, which has been consistently high, ranging from 24.4% to 34.9% in recent years, significantly above the state average.

Interestingly, Adair County High School's performance is generally on par with or slightly below the nearby schools in the Adair County and surrounding districts. For example, Campbellsville High School, which is about 16 miles away, outperforms Adair County High School in several academic areas. The school's socioeconomic factors, such as a relatively high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, may contribute to some of the academic challenges the school faces. However, the school's resource allocation and staffing levels appear to be comparable to or slightly higher than the nearby schools, suggesting that further investigation into the root causes and targeted interventions could help the school improve its overall outcomes.

Open Quote We moved to Adair Co. when I retired from the military hoping to give our kids better opportunities but are so disappointed. Adair Co school system could care less about academics and only focus on sports and band, the teachers mostly come out of Lindsey Wilson which is one of the worst ranked colleges in the country and several of our daughters teachers actually come to her to answer questions for them, right papers, or ask her to spell things for them! I would recommend Glascow High which is close and has a great academic program. Our daughter brought that school more academic state and district titles than anyone in that’s schools history, her and one other student scored the highest ACT scores ever, got her pilots license, was accepted into Vanderbilt university, and so much more yet only a few teachers that are great in that school recognized these students like my daughter for all their hard work, achievements, and tried to help them. They don’t even offer classes she needed so she had to take college classes on her own that we had to pay for because Adair co doesn’t care about academics and these are just facts, that’s why they rank so low. They care about sports and band and just push these kids into Lyndsey Wilson which is right down the road and push them into teaching, nursing, or agriculture, which is fine but what about the students who want more? They don’t care about those students like my daughter and prove it everyday. There are a few good teachers that try to help but not many and the principle, superintendent, and leadership is horrible. I could go on but hope any parents who read this look into other schools close by if you have a child that excels or is interested in academics and excelling and having better opportunities because they will not get them at Adair Co. High. Close Quote
