Summary:

The five schools in Fort Thomas Independent include three elementary schools, a middle school and a high school, serving 425 to 1,019 students. The KSA results cover 2024–2025 and 2025–2026, and the clearest area-wide finding is that every one of the 46 reported 2025–2026 school results was above its matching state result, by an average of 27 percentage points.

Johnson Elementary stands out in fifth-grade literacy and related subjects: it scored 89% in reading, 77% in writing, 82% in social studies and 87% in editing and mechanics. Its reading led the next-highest elementary school by 12 points, and its writing led by 17. Moyer Elementary led fourth-grade math (69%), fifth-grade math (75%) and fourth-grade science (64%). The lowest elementary results in these comparisons were Moyer’s 52% in fifth-grade writing and Woodfill Elementary’s 77% in fifth-grade reading; both were still above state results, by 17 and 26 points. Highlands High School was 27–32 points above the state in each reported subject, while all ten reported results at Highlands Middle School also exceeded state figures.

Across results matched by school, grade and subject, scores rose by an average of 2 points from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, while state results were essentially flat. Gains averaged 7 points at Highlands Middle and 4 at Highlands High; Woodfill and Johnson each declined by about 1 point, while Moyer rose by about 1. SchoolDigger ranked Highlands High 3rd of 262, Johnson 10th of 684, Highlands Middle 11th of 326, Moyer 29th of 684 and Woodfill 35th of 684 in 2025–2026. Among the elementary schools, student-teacher ratios ranged from 15.1 at Johnson to 17.1 at Moyer. The reported measure was free/reduced lunch eligible in 2024–2025: 6% at Johnson, 8% at Moyer and 14% at Woodfill; these figures provide context, not an explanation for test results.
