Summary:

East Bernstadt Independent has one school, serving pre-K through grade 8: East Bernstadt Elementary School. The school had 544 students and a student–teacher ratio of 16.4 in 2024–25; 64% of students were reported as free/reduced lunch eligible that year. Its latest results are above Kentucky’s same-grade averages in every subject, though math is the narrowest advantage: about 4 percentage points.

Because it is the area’s only school, there is no meaningful comparison between local schools; it is both the area’s highest and lowest by default. Its strongest subject is writing: the grade-level average was 71% proficient, compared with 42% statewide, and grade 5 reached 75% versus 35% statewide. Reading also stands out, averaging 65% compared with 49% statewide; the school was above the state in all six tested grades. Math is the clearest area to watch: its average was 45% versus 42% statewide, and grade 4 scored 32% compared with 43% statewide. Grades 5 and 7 were also below the state in math. The school’s average was above the state in science (41% versus 34%), social studies (57% versus 39%), and editing and mechanics (62% versus 45%) as well.

Results declined overall from 2024–25 on grade-subject comparisons available in both years. The average across those comparisons fell from 64% to 56% at the school, while the state average changed from 44% to 44%; the school’s average lead narrowed from 19 points to 12. Math fell from 53% to 45%, while reading fell from 71% to 65%. Writing remains a notable strength, but both tested grades declined by 10 points: grade 5 went from 85% to 75%, and grade 8 from 77% to 67%. SchoolDigger’s statewide rank also moved from 96 of 685 schools in 2023–24 to 137 of 684 in 2025–26, while its reported percentile shifted from the 86th to the 80th. Chronic absenteeism was lower than the state figure in 2025–26: 16% at the school versus 24% statewide.
