Summary:
Woodlawn Elementary School, Junction City Elementary School and Perryville Elementary School serve elementary grades in Boyle County, alongside Boyle County Middle School and Boyle County High School. In 2025–2026, average proficiency was above the state level at all three school levels: elementary schools averaged 65% versus 44% statewide, the middle school 56% versus 42%, and the high school 56% versus 39%. The most important takeaway is that results are strong overall, but elementary performance varies considerably from school to school.
Woodlawn stands out among the elementary schools, leading most comparisons: its grade 4 reading result was 77%, compared with 58% at Perryville and 49% at Junction City; its grade 5 Editing and Mechanics result was 85%, versus 70% and 57%, respectively. Perryville is a notable exception to Woodlawn’s lead: it scored 65% in grade 4 science, 25 points above the state, and tied Woodlawn at 76% in grade 5 reading. Junction City was lowest in elementary math and grade 4 reading; that reading result was the only reported elementary result below the state. The middle and high schools were above state results in every reported test.
Recent results show a slight overall downturn: across comparable tests, school averages fell from 65% in 2024–2025 to 62% in 2025–2026, while the state average was nearly unchanged. Elementary results fell 4 points on average, middle school results fell 2 points, and high school results rose 1 point. SchoolDigger rated Woodlawn 22nd of 684 elementary schools and Perryville 58th; Junction City ranked 116th. Their student-teacher ratios were similar—15.2 at Woodlawn, 15.0 at Perryville and 15.4 at Junction City—despite differences in results. For school year 2024–2025, free/reduced lunch eligible figures were 39% at Woodlawn, 59% at Perryville and 69% at Junction City; these are context, not an explanation for test scores.
