Summary

Soule Elementary School is a public elementary school in Dodge City, Kansas, serving around 400 students in grades K-5. The school has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Kansas elementary schools over the past several years, maintaining a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Soule Elementary faces significant challenges in academic performance, with students consistently underperforming the Dodge City district and the state of Kansas in standardized test scores for English Language Arts and Mathematics. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 17.11% of Soule students were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 23.56% for Dodge City and 44.47% for Kansas. The school also struggles with high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 8.9% to 19.7% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the state average.

When compared to other elementary schools in the Dodge City district, such as Beeson, Sunnyside, Central, and Northwest Elementary, Soule Elementary performs significantly worse, with higher academic achievement and lower rates of chronic absenteeism at these other schools. The school's low performance and high-need student population suggest that it may require additional resources and targeted interventions to improve student outcomes.

Open Quote This school is awesome. My son is a second-grader there and all of the staff know him by name. They really care about the kids and have excellent academic programs. Mr. Preston, the principal, is open and caring. Mrs. Groth, the Librarian, is helpful and attentive. Every teacher my son has had have been top notch. The kids have Counselor once a week where they talk about real issues affecting kids their age, such as bullying and cyber safety. I was surprised to see such low ratings on this site and it really makes me question where this data is being collected from because Soule is one of THE best grade schools in all of Dodge City and I would personally recommend them to anyone.
