Summary:
Hoxie Elementary is the only elementary school listed in Hoxie Community Schools, serving prekindergarten through grade 6 and enrolling 253 students. With just one school, there is no school-to-school comparison. In 2025–26, the school’s all-grades proficiency rates were above state figures in English language arts (ELA), math, and science, but each rate fell from the prior year. The most pressing context measure is chronic absenteeism: 35% at the school, compared with 18% statewide and 29% in the district.
Among the all-grades results, ELA was the strongest relative subject: 52% proficiency, 6 percentage points above the state; math was 46%, 5 points above; and science was 40%, just 2 points above. Grade-level results show a notable bright spot and a concern: sixth-grade ELA was 53%, 11 points above the state, while third-grade math was 24%, 19 points below. Math results in grades 4–6 were above their state comparisons by 6 to 12 points, making the third-grade result a sharp contrast. Grade 5 science was also below the state, at 40% versus 46%. The school’s free- or reduced-price lunch rate was 38% in 2024–25, a useful context figure rather than an explanation for results.
Proficiency declined year over year, most sharply in science: from 56% to 52% in ELA, 51% to 46% in math, and 61% to 40% in science. As a result, the school’s lead over the state narrowed in all three subjects, especially science, from 19 percentage points in 2024–25 to 2 points in 2025–26. SchoolDigger’s ranking also slipped, from 156th of 653 schools (76th percentile) in 2023–24 to 303rd of 657 (54th percentile) in 2025–26; its rating fell from 4 stars to 3. The school remains above state proficiency rates, but the declines and higher absenteeism are important considerations for families.
