Summary:
Hoyt has two public schools: Royal Valley Elementary, serving prekindergarten through grade 4, and Royal Valley High, serving grades 9–12. Together they enroll 592 students, and their 2025–2026 results point to math as the clearest shared academic challenge: the schools’ equal-weight average was 34% proficient, 7 percentage points below the state’s 41%.
Royal Valley Elementary stands out in all-grades ELA, with 52% proficient compared with 36% at Royal Valley High, a 15-point difference. Elementary was 6 points above the state in ELA, while the high school was 10 points below. In math, the schools were closer: 36% at elementary and 33% at the high school, with both below the state. The high school’s only reported science result was 27%, 11 points below the state. Some grade-level results add nuance: elementary grade 4 ELA was 5 points above its state comparison, while elementary math was below state levels in both tested grades. These all-grades school results are not like-grade comparisons because the schools serve different grades.
Results improved overall, but not in every subject at both schools. From 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, elementary ELA rose 9 points and math rose 1; high school ELA fell 2 points while math rose 6. SchoolDigger’s rankings also moved in different directions: elementary rose from the 31st to the 40th percentile, while the high school fell from the 43rd to the 38th. The high school has a lower student–teacher ratio (9.3 versus 12.6) and a lower free/reduced-lunch rate (38% versus 54%), but its all-grades proficiency was lower in both ELA and math; these are observations, not explanations of results. Chronic absenteeism was similar at the schools, at about 11% each, and below the state’s 18%.
