Wa-Nee Community Schools is a highly rated Indiana district serving roughly 2,848 students across five schools — three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school — in the Nappanee and Wakarusa communities. The district ranks 17th of 374 Indiana districts, in the 95th percentile with 5 stars, and every school in the district places at or above the 80th percentile for 2025-26. Enrollment ranges from 378 students at the smallest elementary to 873 at the high school, which alone accounts for about 30.7% of the district.

Wakarusa Elementary School is the academic standout: 97th percentile, 5 stars, and the district leader in ELA (71.96%), Math (78.68%) and Science (66.27%), plus the lowest chronic absenteeism (5.1%), lowest free/reduced lunch rate (32.96%) and lowest per-student spending ($9,885). North Wood Middle School is the most consistent, holding 5 stars three years running with the district's lowest student-teacher ratio (12.8). North Wood High School climbed from 4 stars to 5 stars, with a 98.5% graduation rate and SAT ERW of 72.14% and SAT Math of 41.79%, far above state averages. Woodview Elementary School is the most improved, rising from 3 stars and the 70th percentile to 4 stars and the 84th, while Nappanee Elementary School is strong in Math (70.92%, above the district) but trails in ELA and Science.

For families comparing options, spending does not line up simply with results: Wakarusa spends the least per student yet scores highest, while Nappanee spends the most among elementaries ($12,271) and has the highest free/reduced lunch rate (49.21%) but still beats the district in Math. Absenteeism is low district-wide at 11.2% — Wakarusa 5.1%, Woodview 7.4%, Middle 10.6%, Nappanee 11.1% — with North Wood High the lone exception at 17.4%, above the state's 16.7%, making it the clearest area for improvement. Science is uneven: Nappanee sits at 40.58%, below both district and state, and the middle school's all-grade Science slipped from 56.13% to 50.87%. Elementary social studies, meanwhile, improved sharply at every school.
