Summary:
ZIP code 62702 has seven schools—six elementary schools and one high school, with no middle schools—all part of Springfield School District 186. In 2025–2026, the six elementary schools averaged 30% proficient in all-grades ELA, compared with 56% statewide; the five with reported math scores averaged 18%, compared with 40% statewide. Lanphier High School, the area’s only high school, also trailed the state in all three reported grade-11 ACT subjects. The most important finding is that every reported elementary all-grades result and each of Lanphier’s reported ACT results was below the corresponding state result.
Enos Elementary School leads the elementary schools, with 43% proficient in ELA and 28% in math; Fairview Elementary School is next, at 35% in ELA and 19% in math. Enos’s results were 16 percentage points above the other five schools’ average in ELA and 12 points above the other four reporting schools’ average in math, though they remained 13 and 11 points below state results, respectively. McClernand Elementary School had the lowest reported ELA result, at 23%; its math score is state-suppressed, so it cannot be ranked in that subject. Among schools with reported math scores, Wilcox Elementary School was lowest at 14%.
Elementary results changed unevenly between 2024–2025 and 2025–2026: ELA rose by 11 percentage points at Enos and 7 at Fairview, but fell by 10 at Jane Addams Elementary School and 7 at Wilcox. The six-school ELA average increased by about 1 point while the state result rose by 3, widening the area’s gap; in math, the five-school average and the state result each rose by about 1 point, leaving the gap roughly unchanged. Context differs, too: in 2024–2025, free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 78% at Enos, 82% at Jane Addams and 71% at Wilcox, while their student-teacher ratios were 11.1, 11.5 and 12.0. These are observations, not explanations for score differences. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile rankings also moved in different directions: Enos rose from the 17th percentile in 2024–2025 to the 26th in 2025–2026, while Wilcox fell from the 30th percentile in 2023–2024 to the 10th in 2025–2026.
