Schools in Zip Code 62451

The 62451 zip code area is home to two schools - Palestine Grade School, the only elementary school in the area, and Palestine High School, the sole high school. Both schools face significant academic challenges, with proficiency rates well below state averages in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. Palestine Grade School, in particular, has consistently low performance, ranking in the bottom quartile of Illinois elementary schools.

While Palestine High School has a relatively high four-year graduation rate of 89%, its performance on college readiness assessments is also below state averages. Both schools serve student populations with a high percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating that many families in the area face economic challenges. This may contribute to the high chronic absenteeism rates observed at both schools, which can further hinder academic progress.

Despite the high per-student spending at both schools, the data suggests that funding may not be the primary driver of the academic performance issues. The small size of the Palestine CUSD 3 district presents an opportunity for collaboration and the development of targeted strategies to address the specific needs of the school communities and improve educational outcomes for students in the 62451 zip code area.
