Summary:

Schools in zip code 61603 include three schools in Peoria School District 150: K–8 schools Lincoln School and Glen Oak Community Learning Center, plus grades 5–8 Von Steuben Middle School. In 2025–2026, the three-school average was 19% proficient in ELA, compared with 56% statewide, and 7% in math, compared with 40% statewide. No school reached the state result in either all-grades subject. The most important finding is that proficiency in both subjects remains substantially below state levels at all three schools.

Von Steuben stands out in ELA and science, while Glen Oak leads in math. Von Steuben’s all-grades ELA score was 25%, 7 percentage points above Glen Oak’s 18% and 13 points above Lincoln’s 12%; in grade 8, it scored 43%, versus 23% at Glen Oak and 15% at Lincoln. Glen Oak led all-grades math with 10%, 2 points above Lincoln and 4 above Von Steuben. Von Steuben also had the highest reported science scores in grades 5 and 8: 15% and 28%, compared with Glen Oak’s 13% and 19%. Even its grade 8 ELA lead remained about 20 points below the state result.

Recent trends are mixed: average ELA was essentially unchanged at 18.6% and 18.5% across the two years, while the state rose from 53% to 56%. Average math increased from 6.8% to 7.4%; Glen Oak rose 2 points, while Lincoln fell and Von Steuben was unchanged. Grade 8 science improved at both schools with results in both years: Glen Oak gained 8 points and Von Steuben 11, and the average gap to the state narrowed. Chronic absenteeism was high across the schools, at 34%–37%, compared with 24% statewide. For context, each school reported free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–2025: 88%–94%; student-teacher ratios ranged from 15.2 to 17.9. These figures describe school differences but do not explain them.
