Summary:
The 61281 zip code contains a single elementary school, Sherrard Elementary School, which serves grades K-4 and has a total enrollment of 236 students. Sherrard Elementary is part of the Sherrard CUSD 200 district, which is ranked 416 out of 811 districts in Illinois and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.
Sherrard Elementary's academic performance is somewhat mixed compared to the district and state averages. While the school outperforms the district and state in math for all grades and 3rd grade ELA, it underperforms in ELA for all grades and 4th grade ELA and math. The school's chronic absenteeism rate of 25.4% is notably higher than the state average, which could be a contributing factor to its academic performance. Additionally, the school has a relatively high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch at 29.24%, suggesting it may serve a socioeconomically disadvantaged population.
Despite some fluctuations in its statewide ranking, Sherrard Elementary has consistently maintained a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger, indicating it is performing below average compared to other elementary schools in Illinois. With only one elementary school in the 61281 zip code, there is limited opportunity for direct comparison and competition within the immediate geographic area, which could potentially impact the school's incentives and drive for improvement.
