Summary

Logan Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Moline, Illinois, serving grades K-5 with a total enrollment of 293 students. The school is part of the Moline-Coal Valley CUSD 40 district, which is ranked 659 out of 811 districts in Illinois and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Logan Elementary School consistently underperforms compared to the district and state averages in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 39.3% of all grades were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 38.2% for the district and 53.1% for the state. In Mathematics, the school's proficiency rate was 30.2%, while the district was 28.3% and the state was 38.5%. Additionally, Logan Elementary School has a high chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 25.4% to 30.3% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the state average. The school also struggles to support certain student subgroups, ranking in the bottom 30% of Illinois elementary schools for African American, Hispanic, English Language Learner, Special Education, and Low Socioeconomic Status students.

When comparing Logan Elementary School to other nearby schools within the same district, it becomes evident that Logan is one of the lower-performing schools. For example, Hamilton Elementary School and Benjamin Franklin Elementary School consistently outperform Logan in both ELA and Mathematics proficiency rates. Despite the higher spending per student at Logan Elementary School compared to the district average, this additional funding does not seem to be translating into improved academic outcomes, suggesting that the school may need to re-evaluate how resources are being allocated and utilized to better support student learning.

Open Quote Mr. Ferguson is a very kind and just principal. While there is always room for improvement with curriculum and activity, Logan is a very good school. Most staff members are positive and easy to work with, only a handful may need to reevaluate their techniques and stances with children. I would also suggest that teachers focus individually and educate themselves on different approaches. Close Quote
