Summary

Sandoval Elementary School is a public elementary school in Chicago, Illinois, serving 723 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Chicago Public Schools District 299, which is ranked 698 out of 811 districts in Illinois and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Sandoval Elementary School consistently performs below the district and state averages in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics proficiency. In the 2024-2025 school year, only 31.5% of Sandoval students were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 42.8% for the district and 53.1% for the state. The school also has a high chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 24.2% to 40.1% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the district and state averages. While Hispanic and English Language Learner students perform relatively better, female, special education, and disabled students at Sandoval perform much worse, with rankings in the bottom quarter of the state.

When comparing Sandoval Elementary School to nearby schools in the same district, it is evident that Sandoval is one of the lower-performing schools in the area. For example, Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, which is less than a mile away, consistently outperforms Sandoval in both ELA and Mathematics proficiency, ranking in the top 10-15% of Illinois elementary schools. Despite Sandoval Elementary School spending significantly more per student ($16,165 in 2023-2024) compared to the district average, its academic performance remains well below the district and state levels, suggesting that factors beyond just funding may be contributing to the school's underperformance.

Open Quote My children attended this school, for the most part the education is very good. This school offers some very passionate teachers. The school administration could use a lot of help. The are many miscommunication in the sharing of information for meeting. Another issue is the lack of organization they constantly lose paperwork such as emergency forms and are very untimely with informing parents of schedule. Close Quote
